Olivier Therrien, programer and researcher at CDRIN May 17, 2019

Olivier Therrien, researcher at CDRIN, is currently working on a new rendering technique called Screen Space Ray Tracing (SSRT) to do real-time Global Illumination.

SSRT is not based on actual ray tracing of the geometry, but rather uses screen space information to do illumination, a bit like SSR or SSAO, and aims to provide indirect diffuse lighting.

This technique has the advantage of working even on very large scale scenes and is completely dynamic, but is only effective for light that is present on the screen.

At the time of writing, Olivier is working on a plugin for the Unity game engine and plans to release material for game developers soon.

We are still actively developing the technique. Stay tuned for the latest improvements!
